Cataract Surgery

Cataract surgery can give your pet back their confidence and zest for life. It is one of the most rewarding services we offer.

Over 99% of pets undergoing cataract surgery awaken from anesthesia with their vision restored. The difference in their behavior is almost instant.

Planning My Pets Cataract Surgery:

Cataract surgery requires a three day visit followed by four key recheck exams. The week of cataract surgery the first day includes testing to quantify their retinal function and evaluate for preexisting retinal detachment. The second day is the cataract surgery. The surgery is in the morning and they are required to stay in hospital for the day for monitoring of the pressure in their eyes. They are discharged at the end of the day. The third day is a 24 hour follow-up examination.

Four rechecks are completed at 1 week, 3 weeks, 6 weeks, and 12 weeks after surgery.

For the first three weeks following surgery there are eye drops that must be provided 4 times per day.

Three weeks after surgery the incision reaches its pre-surgical strength and the e-collar can be removed and their new normal activity level can be resumed!
